Shweta is a Canadian citizen and currently resides in Ontario. Ever since childhood, she has had a passion and drive to become bilingual. Shweta is now learning French with us! Let’s discover her story!
Did you have any experience with the French language before studying with LRDG?
Yes, in 2008, I participated in a 5-week French Immersion with the Explore program at the University of Sherbrooke. I gained a lot from this experience but became less proficient in communication as time went on.
How did you hear about LRDG?
I was planning to brush up on my French communication skills for a long time and with the onset of the pandemic and lockdown, just heightened my reasons to do so.
For what purpose do you learn a second language?
It is one of my passions and hobbies but also to give me more of a competitive edge when applying to bilingual jobs.
What do you like most about your language learning program?
The staff have been an integral part of my learning program as they have been with me from day 1 and continue to be alongside me every step of the way from answering questions to accommodating me with my work schedule. Access to the Learning Portal is a bonus as it’s like having a personal handbook with you wherever you go.
How has learning a second language impacted your everyday life?
Learning another language has helped me immensely. These include but are not limited to my memory, concentration, communication and listening skills.
Was it hard for you to begin this language learning journey?
Initially, I was speaking at a much slower pace but gradually, I noticed that it didn’t take me as long to think about the words. Fast forward 1-year later, and I am able to have more eloquent conversations while spending less time trying to recall the vocabulary and the various tense forms.
How do you feel about your experience with LRDG so far?
I’m very appreciative to the whole team at LRDG along with my tutor François who have been instrumental in my growth since day one and still continues to be to this day. This has made the process that much more enjoyable and I would highly recommend this learning platform to others.
Do you have any tips for other learners?
Start from where you are and don’t give up. It’s incredible at how much progress you can make in a year as long as you are determined and intrinsically motivated to achieve results. Practice and repetition are the keys to success! Don’t let obstacles slow you down as they are simply speed bumps along your language learning journey.

C’est la vie!
